Gameplay and Rules

At the start of the game, players take turns placing blocks on the board. Once no more blocks will fit, Stage 2 begins.

From here on, players alternate turns:

Remove a block from the board and put it in your bank (max 2 blocks).

Move one of your markers to advance towards your opponent's end

Replace one block from your bank back onto the board

Place one block from the public domain onto the board

The first to get all their markets across the board wins!

Details:

In Pentattack, players race to maneuver all their markers across a shared grid into the opposing goal row. The catch: a shifting labyrinth of 12 solid pentomino blocks blocks the path—and players constantly reshape the board under each other's feet.

The game starts deceptively simple: Place the blocks onto the board. Players soon realize that, against intuition, you do NOT want to pack the blocks tightly on your side -- the more space between the blocks, the more room you will have to move around.

Eventually, players start moving their markers across the board. Like Chinese Checkers, players are moving in opposite directions and paths cross quickly. Unlike Chinese Checkers, there is no jumping over blocks or other players, so the players have to maneuver around a crowded board. The first to get through all of the obstacles and reach the other side emerges victorious.

Two Distinct Psychological Phases: Phase 1 is proactive territory construction and spatial foresight; Phase 2 transforms immediately into an aggressive, dynamic race where corridors open and slam shut every turn.

Dynamic Board Anatomy: Unlike static race games, the terrain is fully mutable. Pulling a block clears a highway for your runner while banking a literal wall to drop directly in front of your rival on the next move.

True Modern Abstract Appeal: Plays fast, features zero luck or hidden dice math, and is 100% driven by pure spatial maneuvering and tactical foresight.

High Tactile Table Presence: The contrast of colorful wooden or acrylic pentomino pieces sliding onto a grid gives it an immediate, toyetic "pick up and play" attraction on retail shelves and convention tables.
